about
At first glance, the song's title seems aptly inspired by the current solitary status of the world's inhabitants. In truth, the tune was written, recorded and named this past summer while the band had been collectively re-exploring there 90’s alternative rock roots. In the fall of 2019, Midnight Singers stepped into the parquet-floored Gradwell House Studios in New Jersey, to record a handful of new songs, which included “Locked Inside” along with their cover of Morphine’s 'Cure for Pain", (previously released before their 2019 Fall Northeast tour).
Nick Mazzuca, the band's bass player wrote and sings the new single. About the song, Mazzuca says:
“To me it’s about moving forward without totally sidelining everything you dreamed of as a kid. It’s that constant battle between the desire for a simple life, or laying all your cards on the line to try to make a name for yourself."
While we're 'locked inside' at the moment, we are also evolving through — by keeping our lives simple and simultaneously yearning for more, something greater. The release of this new song might offer a reprieve, if only for a few minutes. Sometimes, that's enough.
'Locked Inside' was produced, recorded, and mixed by John Anthony; mastered by Cliff Hillis.
lyrics
There ain’t nothing there for me
In that old house no more
I guess it’s just been hard to see
That the life I had before
Will never be again
I keep having these crazy dreams
I’m back inside that house
And there’s no one there but me
And all the lights are out
I just can’t find my way
Because there’s nowhere to go
When you keep your soul
Locked inside that house
Is where I’ve been for all these years
It’s where I’ve been hiding my old regrets and all my fears
But I swear this time around I’m gonna be set free
From that lost lonely dream
Locked inside that house
Lately I’ve been feeling lonesome
And longing for the days when I could just post my hopes right up on the wall and that was enough for me
I think I just kept them there
To slowly fade away
But there’s Nowhere to go
When you keep your soul
Locked inside that house
Is where I’ve been for all these years
Its where Ive been hiding my old my regrets and all my fears
But I swear this time around I’m gonna be set free
From that lost lonely dream
Locked inside that house

Midnight Singers deliver “fresh and invigorating rootsy rock ‘n’ roll.” Maverick Magazine (UK) recognized that “they may be
rooted in the classics—but it’s what they do with those well-worn items that counts, and what they do is make music that has a freshness, a youth to it.”...more
